BRGM is the leading public institution in the Earth Science field for the sustainable management of naturalresources (including mineral resources) and surface and subsurface risks in France. The various roles ofBRGM can be described as follows: technological research and development and innovation; support forpublic policies and citizen information; international cooperation and development aid; safety andmonitoring of former mining sites.The BRGM teams involved in NEMO (Waste & Raw Material Unit Unit) have vast experience ofdevelopment of innovative processes for ores characterization and treatment and have a recognized expertisein mineral processing and biohydrometallurgy up to the engineering of industrial scale plant for bioleachingof sulphidic minerals.BRGM was and is actively involved as coordinator and/or partner in several European projects, the morerelevant to the NEMO topics being FP6-BIOMINE, FP6-BIOSHALE, FP7-PROMINE and CERES (RFCS2015), H2020 – BioMore which were or are dedicated to the development of innovative processes in the fieldof biohydometallurgy.
