The NEMO M18 meeting: a retrospect (November 2019)

From Wednesday 13 till Friday 15 November, NEMO consortium members from 8 different counties across the European Union gathered in Leuven to discuss progress and prospectives for the coming months. In this meeting, our new partner Boliden exchanged their ideas for the first time with the group.

dr Teuvo Uusitalo hosted the workshop on exploitation

The meeting kicked off with an exploitation workshop. Different partners afterwards met in work package discussions, to be in the loop of the newest evolutions of the research. Wednesday evening was concluded with a cozy dinner in the old city center.

The general work package meetings continued on Thursday. Meanwhile, our ‘alertness-level’ was maintained with some name games. The sporty ones amongst us finished the day with a 300-step climb of the university library bell tower, with a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Leuven as a reward.

dr. Andrea Di Maria introduced the consortium to the basics of Life-Cycle-Analysis (LCA).

During our last day, Piet Wostyn and Andrea Di Maria enlightened us with an interesting workshop on Social License to Operate (Actually, did you know this is not a license?) and Life Cycle Analysis, respectively. The visiting partners were treated with a tour of the SOLVOMET facilities at the KU Leuven Chemistry Department. The new mixer-settlers were happy with the visit.

A meeting in Belgium would not be a Belgian meeting without having a visit to the largest brewery in the city. Still, the people from Stella Artois are talking about those NEMO-guys 😉

The next meeting will be held in at VTT in Tampere, Finland, in May 2020. See you there!
