In the 2014 Research AssessmentExercise, which evaluates the quality of research at UK Universities, Exeter was placed 16th nationally and13th within the Russell Group. Over 82% of the research that Exeter does assessed as either world leading orinternationally excellent. The EXE research team are based at the Camborne School of Mines (CSM) and thenew Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) in Cornwall. CSM was founded in 1888 and is a worldleading centre for innovative research on responsible mining and sustainable use of natural resources. TheESI has been enabled by the EU Regional Development Fund (£22.9m) and boasts state-of-the-art facilitiesto conduct interdisciplinary research spanning three interrelated themes: Clean technologies, Naturalenvironment and Social science and sustainability.
